Valentine’s Day is the ideal time to show love and care for those special people that make a difference in your life. However, it’s also the perfect time to show love and care for your home. Whether you’re planning a romantic evening out or a cosy night in the home, there are risks you need to prepare for to keep safe.

Home Security and Smart Devices

Smart cameras, such as doorbell cameras can give you extra security when out of the home, or at nighttime. These cameras can significantly decrease the chances of theft taking place, whilst ensuring you have an insight into who tries to access your home, whether lawfully or unlawfully.

Apps that control your heating can be extremely helpful when preventing escapes of water. The colder your pipes get, and the longer the durations between turning your heating on, the higher the risk of pipe corrosion – leading to leaks. Pop your heating on throughout February and remain safe!

Utilising apps this Valentine’s Day that control your heating allow you to set timers and heat your home enough to reduce the chances of water flooding your property.

Candles

Candlelit dinners are one of the main staples of a stereotypical Valentine’s Day evening, but these beautiful flames can become a hazard if left unattended.

If you do choose to light a traditional candle this Valentine’s Day, always blow them out before leaving the room for an extended period of time.

Additional note: Remember to check your smoke alarms every few months to ensure they’re in working order, should a fire happen.

Gadgets and Gifts

High-end presents like jewellery and gadgets are typically some of the most expensive possessions you’ll own. For this reason, it’s worth getting them covered under your policy.
