Home Insurance
Feel confident about every corner of your cover.
At Source, our goal is to make home insurance simple and understandable, so you can clearly grasp your policy and recognise your individual needs.
We have compiled some of your most common home insurance questions to provide clear and simple answers, saving you time from searching online.
So, let’s get into your common home insurance questions.
The simple answer? Yes.
If you’re looking for a mortgage for your new home, almost all mortgage deals will require adequate home insurance to qualify. This not only protects your home but also protects your lender’s investment.
If you’ve paid off your mortgage, you don’t legally need home insurance, as you did when you had a mortgage lender, but it’s advisable to have a policy to protect your home and memories.
Some common home insurance questions often surround excesses. These are the amounts of money you agree to pay with your insurer when making a claim on your home insurance.
You often have the option to select a voluntary excess. This is where you opt to pay an amount of your own money in case of a claim. Choosing a higher number may make your monthly premiums cheaper, but in the event of a claim, you will have to pay what you’ve selected, so keep this in mind!
If there is a set excess by the insurer, then this will be added on top of the voluntary excess. This is generally non-negotiable. Some insured risks will have higher excesses than others, so it’s important to understand your policy schedule and the figures agreed upon.
Yes, you can add on items to any household insurance policy we offer under Personal Belongings.
This includes items designed to be worn or carried, such as:
1. Jewellery
2. Watches
3. Mobile phones
4. Handheld game consoles
5. Portable music players
6. Laptops
7. Tablets
8. Sports, musical and photographic equipment and luggage
bags.
Your limits are found below:
| Unspecified Personal Belongings Maximum Sum Insured | Max £10,000 |
| Specified Personal Belongings Maximum Value | £15,000 |
| Personal Belongings Excess | £100 (plus any Voluntary Excess chosen) |
You can contact us to discuss your options here.
If you have a valuable item that’s worth less than the £1,000 single item limit, but you want it insured away from the home, you will need to add ‘Unspecified Personal Belongings Cover.’ This is an add-on that will protect items away from the home, excluding bikes, that are worth less than £1,000.
As this is an add-on, this will likely alter your premium, but it will keep your possession covered!
